DOUG HAMMETT
DOUG HAMMETT has a long history in fine art, music, and performance art. He has shown his work in galleries and museums for decades, ranging from traditional painting, assemblage sculpture, conceptual art, and edible installations. He had the honor of being a primary member of Tohubohu Extreme Theatre for 15 years under the direction of Rachel Rosenthal. He continues to create contemporary music individually and with a group called Convertible Play House. He writes and illustrates books and oracle decks through his company, Brush to Pen Publications.

This book is not limited to those making art but is also applicable to areas of life where one may get stuck. The book is packed with illustrative artwork, so the inner child will definitely be entertained. Having explored the arts through music, visual and performance arts Doug has acquired some insight along the way. Now is the time to share some of those golden nuggets in a playful way.
When Stones Swim
The book “When Stones Swim,” written and illustrated by Doug Hammett, features 16 painted/collaged pieces and colorful storytelling. Following the tradition of the Brush to Pen series, the artwork is created first, allowing the muses to guide the brush free from mental constraints. Once the visuals are complete, the stories begin to emerge. In this collection, the writings take the form of fanciful tales, prayers to the wind, and rhythmic poetry. Special attention was paid to the background textures layered with collage material from his studio.

“The Diversity Deck” by Doug, is a collection of 50 separate illustrated cards designed to give one opportunity to pause and consider the many different aspects of their life. It is said, “An image is worth a thousand words.” Instead of predefining each card’s meaning through words, they are left open to one’s own interpretation. The deck celebrates the diversity found within ourselves and how we may find expression in this world.

"Finding YourSelf" is a book illustrated and written by Doug Hammett. The story invites the reader to dive into the unknown and form new relationships with hidden aspects of themselves. Doug Hammett's playful paintings pull the reader into a dreamlike world where one can touch the depths of their psyche.
